ARS POPULI

“A brilliant group of singers with a dynamic vision…”

- Michael McGlynn,
founder and director of Anúna

Ars Populi (Latin for "art of the people") is a vocal ensemble founded in 2023 by All-Ireland champion singer Kevin Elam to present acappella music, from folk to sacred, at a world-class level. Comprising six of the Mid-Atlantic’s most talented singers from a range of backgrounds, Ars Populi has garnered critical acclaim for our sensitive treatment of a wide range of repertoire, from Medieval and Renaissance gems to 20th century works, new arrangements of traditional folk ballads, jazz & pop standards, and more.

The group's name, which means “art of the people”, represents our view that singing is the most accessible, natural, and therefore democratic of all the musical arts, and as such, properly belongs to all humans. We also believe that art derives its meaning not from itself, but from the positive reaction it can create in the human mind and soul. Rooted in these beliefs, we strive to sing and present our concerts in a friendly, accessible way.
